Trip Type:Backpacking
On this two day trek we will experience some of the most challenging and rugged trails the Israeli desert has to offer: Deep canyons, jugged peaks, tons of scrambling, tons of ladders, many steep ascents and descents, and breathtaking views of Isreal’s most diverse landscape.
This trek is recommended to experienced hikers, who have no problem with heights.
Group size in these unique treks is small and limited to no more than 20 hikers.
TO COMPLETE THIS TREK YOU MUST BE ABLE TO HIKE ON DIFFICULT TERRAIN WITH EVERYTHING ON YOUR BACK!
Trip plan:
Thursday 23th of January: we will meet at Tel Aviv central bus station at 18:00 and take the bus to Eilat (tickets to the bus must be pre- purchased at Egged website or phone), a short taxi ride will take us from Eilat city to the first campground.
Friday 24th: Waking up early and starting the trek- climbing up to the Gishron cliffs, hiking the colorful sandstone canyon of Gishron, optional crawling into the narrow Zafra pass, and the upper canyon with many ladders and scrambling, finishing the day on top of Mt. Yo’ash with panoramic view of the Sinai desert.
Saturday 25th: A difficult ascent to the jagged granite peak of Mt. Shlomo for some magnificent views of the Eilat bay, Sinai, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, from there a steep and challenging descent through the narrow Bat Sheva canyon, with more than 17 dry falls using ladders and rails. Time permitting we will ascend to Mt. Shachmon for a final view of the Eilat bay before getting back to the bus to Tel Aviv
Few notes:
* On the second night we will have a taxi bringing us water for the second day of hiking, so no need to carry water for both days.
* The nights at the desert are chilly, make sure to have the right clothing, sleeping bag, mat and tent.
* The price does not cover food, transportation, and water drop.
Estimated extra costs for the trip:
We have extra equipment to lend (free of charge) if you are missing some of the vital gear. Pick up is from Tel Aviv.
The trip is dependent on minimum number of participants.
