TRIP DETAILS

Meeting Time:06:00

Completion Time: 17:00

TRIP OVERVIEW

To kick off our exploration of the Judean Foothills, we will catch the morning views from Tel Azeka over the central valleys and Judean Mountains with views all the way to the coast. From the battle of David and Goliath to the Israeli-Arab War of 1948, these valleys have seen only conquest. Now its time to see for ourselves how this area has played such an important role in the history of the region.

We will hike our way towards Khirbet Midras, a fascinating complex of battle caves used by Bar Kochba and his fighters during the 4-year rebellion against the Romans during the 2nd century. Along the way, we will scale through lush valleys, pine forests and fields of beautiful flowers.

To finish the day, we will take in the breathtaking views of the Janaba Valley from the Hans Sternbach Winery, featuring some of the best wines in the region and exemplifying the rich wine-making traditions in the valleys of the Judean Foothills.

The hike itself is an easier intermediate hike.

Khirbet Midras: These caves can be very narrow. Claustrophobia may be an issue for some – only the most daring should enter the area! Definitely bring your flashlight unless you are looking for a complete blackout.

We will do our best to return by 17:00 so people can make it home for Shabbat.

Pricing: Early registration is 169.50 NIS which includes the winetasting and transport. Later registration after the early discounted tickets is 189.50 and includes the wine tasting and transport to and from Tel Aviv.
