Trip Type:Hiking & Sightseeing
Come discover one of the more remote areas where the eastern desert meets the central mountains. The desert of Rashayda – located between Bethlehem and Hebron – is a unique area straddling the Judean wilderness and mountain frontier where nomadic lifestyles are still the traditional way of life.
Our day will take us hiking through the upper areas of Wadi Jihar (upper Arugot stream), one of the largest and most beautiful river beds that brings water from the mountains to the Dead Sea basin. This hike is co guided by our friend and mentor, Farhan Rashayda who will give us a unique perspective of the life in this special region where the mountains meets the desert.
During the late winter season, this area is fully in bloom with lush, green gullies pocked by an array of wild flowers. The area is surrounded by numerous caves which have served local populations for thousands of years. This is still one of the few areas where you can remain off the radar, away from most weekend travellers.
After the hike, we will continue towards the desert plains over the Dead Sea transform and get a special glimpse at local Bedouin life in the area. Trip participants will have the option to feast on a homemade meal (80 NIS extra paid in cash).
Please send us your preference if you are interested in any of these options.
The hike is an intermediate level hike and suitable for anyone with moderate hiking experience.
The price for the trip is 199 NIS. Discounted tickets will be available in limited quantities on a first come first serve basis for 179 NIS. This does not include the optional lunch at the end (80 NIS/person).
