Desert season is here, and Finjan is kicking it off with a trip to Israel’s ‘Grand Canyon’ – Wadi Heymar in the southern narrows of the Judean Wilderness.
This full-day hike is the perfect way to welcome in the desert season as we wind our way through Israel’s longest, Dead Sea canyon, eventually reaching the shores of the famous salt sea! Much of the day will be spent hiking upon the fault cliffs that line the Judean’ Desert’s eastern landscape and curving through the canyon’s narrow passages.
The hike is challenging and will cover 20KM ascending and descending through the beautiful desert terrain. Along the trail we will pass by a 100 meter dry waterfall. This is a longer hike than usual and is suited more for fit hikers used to longer days on the trail.
In Arabic, we call it Wadi al Muhaiwat – Valley of the Abyss – which easily explains the canyon’s deep narrows and mighty cliffs. Towards the end of the hike, we will pass by springs of asphalt which served as one of the highest price commodities in the ancient world – used for embalming and mummification as well as ship building.
Early discounted tickets will be available (first come first serve) for 169.50 NIS
Regular priced tickets will be sold at 189.50 NIS
Full transport is included from Tel Aviv with pickups on the way according to the route we are taking down to the trail head.
