Trip Type:Urban

Jericho is one of the world’s oldest centers of civilization and the lowest city on earth. It’s strategic location, arable land, abundance of water and warm winters has made it the the ideal location for human settlement to survive and thrive throughout the ages.

It is no coincidence that throughout history, conquerors and local rulers made Jericho one of their most important cities and a place that would serve to become legendary across the Levant.

Our trip to Jericho will dig deep through the historical record and see how this special city has crawled into the heart of faith and civilization and why it continues to be such a unique place in today’s local climate of religion, economics and geopolitics!

From the ancient Ghasulian community, to the Israelites, the Maccabees, Herod the Great, Jesus and the Devil, the early Muslim caliphs and until today as a rural Palestinian city – Jericho has it all, even a casino!

After departing Tel Aviv with stops en route via Rehovot and Jerusalem, we will descend to Jericho. Our visit to the city will include the follow sites (in no particular order and subject to slight changes based on extenuating factors)

  • Hisham’s Palace
  • Monastery of the Temptation
  • Hasmonean / Herodian Winter Palaces
  • Elisha’s Spring
  • Zacheuss’ Sycamore Tree
  • Lunch in the market
  • Tel Jericho
