TRIP OVERVIEW

Join Finjan for a special hiking excursion to Israel’s Alpine region and northern-most frontier high upon Mount Hermon. Rising above 2,200 meters, the Israeli Hermon – the eyes of Israel – is just one part of this Levantine Alpine range that runs through Lebanon, Syria and Israel.

Of course, any excursion to the area this time of year must be combined with some cherry picking to finish the day. We will visit our good friends in Majdal Shams – the area’s largest Druze village – and try some of the finest cherries in the land!

Throughout most of the year, snow pocks the mountain landscape while springtime appears when the rest of the country is already feeling the summer heat. Our visit will include a sharp alpine ascent to the upper peaks (coordinated with the Israeli military) where we will then explore the Battle Hills made famous through Israel’s different wars with its neighbours.

Much of the upper area is closed due for security purposes, yet we will be able to explore a few different routes that are usually closed to the public. The Hermon Ridge displays fascinating geological and phytogeographical features that create a stunning landscape and broad views into Syrian, Lebanon and northern Israel.

Our day will combine discussions of battle history and the changing geopolitical landscape amidst the beautiful alpine scenery that gives meaning to the area’s nickname as the Eyes of Israel.
