For Biblical archaeologists, the area of the southern dead sea will always be recognized with Sodom & Gomorrah: the 2 evil towns that were destroyed by God. Although there are no ruins around Mt. Sodom, it is still one the hottest areas in Israel.
Luckily the nights in the desert are cool and during a full moon night this is one of the finest areas for hiking!
This area is well known for its wild lunar landscapes, as erosion carved through the thick sediments some narrow and winding canyons, with countless colorful layers. Dominating the landscape is Mt. Sodom: a long Jagged ridge made almost completely from pure salt.
Our plan for the hike is to hike the winding canyons surrounding Mt. Sodom, climb over the ridge, where we will have few hours to rest, and watch the sunrise above the Dead Sea and the mountains of Moab. After the sunrise we will hike down through the winding fish trail to the Dead Sea and finish the hike next to a salt natural monument named “Lot’s wife”
After the hike we will meet the bus and drive to Dead Sea where we will have some free time to swim (optional: swim to the art piece of the lonely tree, few hundred meters off shore)
You will be able to leave any gear you don’t need for the hike on the bus, we will meet it before swimming in the Dead Sea.
