Ma’ale Aqrabim – the Scorpions Ascent – gets its name from the adjacent Roman ascent that was used throughout antiquity and up through the British Mandate as a major access route between the Arava Valley and Mediterranean Sea.
The windy and jagged ascent is like the whip of the scorpions tail!
This hike in Negev is a semi-strenuous trek through the riverbeds and canyons on the edge of the eastern Negev.
The surrounding cliffs offer beautiful views of the Negev and far to the east! In the canyon, we will be greeted with plenty of ladders to help us ascend.
We will also delve into understanding the role this area had within the record of the Holy Land.
Hiking via the Scorpion’s Ascent is a great way to get familiar with the land of the craters – ארץ המכתשים – and this unique geological phenomenon which can only be found in a few places in the world.
Trekking in the northeastern Negev is a great way to understand the proportions within Israel and gain a better geographical understanding of the region bridging the deep valleys of the Arava with the high plateaus of the Negev.
The price of the trip is 199 NIS. There will be a limited quantity of ‘Early Bird’ tickets available for those who sign up early! The Early Bird tickets will be sold at 179 NIS
