TRIP OVERVIEW

Finjan is finally heading back to Jordan for a 4-day 3-night adventure.

We will explore the mystical, red-rock city of Petra, the martian desert of Wadi Rum and hike for an entire day through one of Jordan’s most beautiful flowing canyons – The Ghuweir River Gorge!

This trip is the perfect mix between hiking and sightseeing for those seeking the path less traveled that goes far beyond the guide-book.

For centuries, the wondrous Nabatean city of Petra – an international mecca of trade – was lost to the world. It wasn’t until the 1800s that this city started to slowly work its way back into the contemporary history. During our time exploring this ancient wonder, we will seek to answer many questions that have yet to be answered about this unique civilization that faded into the throngs of history.

The first day will begin bright at 08:00 where we will meet at the Israeli-Jordanian border (Rabin Crossing, Eilat). From here, we will head for a delicious breakfast in Aqaba and on to Little Petra where we will have the chance to hike around and set the tone for the following day in Petra.

Our visit will also include a nice walk to an ancient Neolithic Village where we will get a look at life 6000 years ago.

Our second day will be a full day of exploring the lost city of Petra including the special back-trail hike from the high ‘monastery’ and back to the valleys around Little Petra.

Besides getting to visit Petra’s classic sites, we will also catch stunning views across the Arava Valley and into Israel from Jordan’s higher, mountainous area encircling the ancient, Nabatean city.

Day three will be a full, outdoor adventure through the Ghuweir River Gorge, one of Jordan’s heavenly flowing canyons. Palm trees line the ledges above the stream with beautiful sandstone creating a geological paradise. We will hike all day through the water and finish in the evening with a delicious BBQ meal outside.

After the BBQ dinner, we will make the drive to Wadi Rum and our camp for the evening. The camp features stand-alone tents with two beds per tent. This will allow us to get an early start the next day for our Jeep Tour in the back of pickup trucks cruising around the martian landscape and the red desert.

Post jeep-tour, we will make our way back to Aqaba and the border

This trip is an intermediate to advanced excursion. All travelers must have proper footwear for hiking on land and through the river gorge (no flip flops or crocs)
