Completion Time: 17:30
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Trip Type:Hiking
The picturesque town of Ein Karem defines the western border of Jerusalem and offers beautiful hiking areas in the vicinity. Join Finjan for a Friday excursion exploring the area’s mountain scapes and learning about the importance of this region throughout the historical record.
Tradition has it that this sleepy town is where John the Baptist was born and where the Virgin Mary visited her sister Elizabeth – John’s mother.
After hiking throughout the surrounding hills, we will visit the town and get a chance to visit the church associated with the birth of John the Baptist. The site sits on what is believed to be an ancient Jewish site from the time of the Second Temple and became an important landmark for Christians throughout history. Originally, a Byzantine church sat on the site.
Ein Karem is Jerusalem’s westernmost village and offers a bit of Tuscany in the Holy Land!
This is an intermediate level hike and suitable for anyone with some hiking experience. There will be some moderate ascents and descents throughout the day and is the perfect way to spend the day before Shabbat.
The cost of the trip is 199.00 NIS. There is a limited number of early discounted tickets available for 179.00 on a first come, first serve basis.
