Trip Type:Hiking & Sightseeing
Finjan is heading to Jordan for a 3-day 2-night adventure that will take you to the mystical, red-rock city of Petra, the martian desert of Wadi Rum and Jordan’s southern semi-mountainous, semi-desert region. Our trip will have an added hiking element for those seeking the path less traveled that goes far beyond the guide-book.
For centuries, the wondrous Nabatean city of Petra – an international mecca of trade – was lost to the world. It wasn’t until the 1800s that this city started to slowly work its way back into the contemporary history. During our time exploring this ancient wonder, we will seek to answer many questions that have yet to be answered about this unique civilization that faded into the throngs of history.
The first day will begin bright and early at 06:15 where we will meet at the Israeli-Jordanian border (Rabin Crossing, Eilat). From here, we will head for a delicious breakfast in Aqaba at one of our favourite local haunts. Then we will head to Little Petra where we will have the chance to hike around and set the tone for the following day in Petra. Our visit will also include a nice walk to an ancient Neolithic Village where we will get a look at life 6000 years ago.
Our second day will be a full day of exploring the lost city of Petra including the special back-trail hike from the high ‘monastery’ and back to the valleys around Little Petra. Besides getting to visit Petra’s main sites, we will also be able to catch stunning views across the Arava Valley and into Israel from Jordan’s higher, mountainous area.
We will finish the second day in the red desert of Wadi Rum under the stars at a lovely, isolated Bedouin camp. Our bellies will be filled with a wonderful dinner and the next morning we will head out for a day of riding in the back of jeeps across the red dunes in the back of pickup trucks. From there we will make our way back to Aqaba and the border crossing.
All hiking on the trip is rated an a moderate level and is suitable for all types of hikers and those that enjoy walking. Please contact us with any specific questions.
