After a few trips down to the desert, we’ve decided to head back north for a day hike in the Upper Galilee. The day will begin on Mount Meron, just over 1260 meters above sea level, and finish in the Maronite village of Jish.
The Galilee is a great way to learn about the many minority populations in Israel, including the Maronite community of Jish – one of the few areas in the world where Aramaic is still used on a daily basis. The Maronite community here has its roots in Lebanon where the majority of Christians are Maronite.
Jish is known to be the ancient Jewish town of Gush Halav and visitors can still see the remains of the Jewish community that was living here during antiquity. The town still has the remains of an ancient Galilean synagogue that existed during the time of the rabbinic sages.
A part of the trail will be on the Israel National Trail, a hiking trail that cuts the entire length of the country. We will be surrounded by beautiful scenes of greenery and lush Mediterranean Woodlands.
Early Bird discounted tickets cost 169.50 NIS. Regular priced tickets costs 189.50 NIS.
This is a full day of hiking in the Upper Galilee. Please read the instructions and safety requirements below.
