With the Jewish holidays right around the corner, we figured that a hiking trip to one of the country’s holiest areas would be perfect to start the season. As autumn approaches and summer winds down, the Amud and Meron streams provide a perfect respite from the late-summer heat!
The hike will include a stop at the Sechvi pool where the Amud and Meron Streams converge. It’s a nice way to relax in the water before we make our way up to the slopes of Tsfat, the capital and birthplace of Jewish mysticism.
The cemetery in Tsfat is one of the country’s most famous, not just because of its mystic connection but due to the plethora of archeological significance in the area. Some of the most impressive rock-cut tombs from antiquity are located in the area.
The Talmud says that the Messiah will pass through Tsfat on his way to Jerusalem while Tsfat itself, perched high on the hills of the Upper Galilee is associated with the element of wind – I guess you could a say a mystic breeze is always upon you!
The day will combine some beautiful hiking, local legends and a visit to the cemetery in Tsfat. Time permitting, we will continue the ascent to the Old City of Tsfat to see the entire area covered throughout the day.
