TRIP OVERVIEW

For the 6th time: It’s our traditional backpacking weekend in the Eilat Mountains!

At the southern tip of Israel, some of the most diverse and colourful desert landscapes remind us of both the terrain of Jordan and the Sinai Desert. This year after the rare and plentiful rains, we expect a lot of wild flowers, and the watering holes to be filled with cold water to swim in.

Trip Itinerary:

Thursday 28th of February: Arrival to Eilat; drive to the trail head (Shani campground next to the Egyptian border)

Friday 1st of March: Hiking through the narrows of the Red Canyon; bouldering through Wadi Shani; the colourful Shlalgon valley;  Raham Pools, Raham wild palms; Amram Ascent; camp.

Saturday 2nd of March: Mt. Amir and the sandstone canyon of Nahal Amir; the Magmatic canyon of Schoret and Mt. Shchoret; the striped coloured canyon of the “lost valley” Mt. Shachmon; return to Eilat; bus ride north.

This is a hard and challenging trail with many ascents and descents,  including 20KM plus per day, some bits of scrambling and ladders to climb.

We will meet at Eilat at 23:30 (or the Tel Aviv CBS at 18:15, book your tickets in advance!) and head from there to the trail head together.
Return to Eilat around 18:00. Book your tickets back for 19:00.

On this trip, we will be required to carry everything we need on our backs, aside from water for the second day that will be provided for us by a waterdrop service.

If you are missing a piece of gear, we have some extra to lend- contact us to secure it for the trip.

This trip is NOT recommended for beginner level hikers, or people who have vertigo of heights!

The trip is dependent on a minimum number of participants.
