Meeting Time:10:30
Completion Time: 14:00
Difficulty Level: Advanced
Trip Type:Hiking
On Sukkot we plan to continue our trail from the exact point our trip last year stopped on October 7th: the southern part of the Ramon circuit trail, an area known for its remoteness and sharp wild landscapes.
While many visit the magnificent Ramon Crater, the southwestern reaches remain wild and off tourist maps, as water sources are scarce, and the campgrounds remote and reachable only by all clearance vehicles – making this a truly desolate desert region.
To trek this remote trail, you will need to hike 15-20km daily and face steep ascents and descents on challenging terrain (no technical scrambling is required)
Trip plan:
Wednesday October 23rd: meet our logistics team at 10:30, load the cars with the gear you don’t need for the hike, jeep ride to the trail head, hike the northern edge of the crater, Arod pass, hike up to the peak of Mt. Ido with its strange rock cairns, camp below Mt. Ido.
Thursday October 24th: Hike the inner valleys of the southern rim, with many abandoned nomadic archaeological sites, impressive views into the wild southern reaches of the Negev, if we are lucky and the rainy season is early possible desert swimming in the Oded pond, camp in the Peitam gap campground.
Friday October 25th: the hardest day of the trek, climb the mighty peak of the “Watchman of Ramon” with majestic views of the whole Negev, a steep descent down, the Amonnites wall, descent to road 40, jeep ride back to Mitzpe Ramon.
Trip cost: 875 NIS
